Clinical Utility

A plasma-based mold cfDNA assay offers a rapid, noninvasive way to support the diagnosis of invasive fungal infection.

Invasive fungal infections can present as a range of syndromes, including invasive rhinosinusitis, pneumonia, central nervous system disease, and skin or soft tissue involvement. As the number of patients undergoing transplantation and receiving immunosuppressive therapy continues to grow, so does the at-risk population and the incidence of IFIs. Aspergillus species and Mucorales are among the most frequent causes, and are usually diagnosed by sampling deep tissues such as lung — often through biopsy, or by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) as a less invasive surrogate. Both approaches carry procedural risk and may be nondiagnostic when paired with conventional assays.
